‘47 Ronin’ director who gambled Netflix funds on crypto gets 30 months
Carl Rinsch, director of *47 Ronin*, was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to 30 months in prison for defrauding Netflix of $11 million. Prosecutors said he claimed the money was needed to finish his sci-fi series, then used it for speculative stock trading, cryptocurrency bets, and luxury spending. He briefly turned a large Dogecoin wager into about $27 million, but spent most of it on personal expenses, including cars, furniture, watches, clothes, and legal fees. He never completed the show or repaid the funds. Rinsch was convicted in December on fraud and money-laundering charges and also received three years of supervised release, plus $11 million in forfeiture. Prosecutors had sought five years; the defense argued for no prison time, citing mental health issues.
