A forehead tattoo typo became a $600,000 crypto token, revealing the dark side of memecoin craze
Pump.fun’s new bounty product drew controversy after a user, Arivu, said he completed a GO bounty by tattooing the misspelled ticker “$boutywork” on his forehead, matching the task exactly. The typo itself then became tradable: a Solana token using BOUTYWORK launched on PumpSwap, briefly reached a market cap above $600,000, and generated millions in volume. Arivu later said he received $20,000 from trading fees and thanked supporters. The episode highlighted concerns that Pump.fun GO can turn attention into profit while encouraging risky or exploitative stunts. Other bounties included alcohol-chugging, head-shaving, and filming homeless interviews, alongside lighter dares. Critics said the platform’s incentives can push users toward harmful behavior, reinforcing wider worries about memecoin culture and crypto’s reputation.
