After Clarity Act Fails, Crypto Super PAC Fairshake Targets Sherrod Brown With $30 Million
Fairshake, a crypto-backed super PAC, plans to spend $30 million against Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s Senate race after the Senate rejected the Clarity Act, a bill that would have created federal crypto market rules. Brown, a longtime crypto skeptic and former Senate Banking Committee chair, is challenging Republican Sen. Jon Husted in a race that could help decide Senate control. Brown’s campaign said the spending shows “special interests” fear he will fight the system. This would be Fairshake’s second major campaign against Brown after spending about $40 million in 2024 to help Republican Bernie Moreno defeat him. The Senate’s 49-50 vote blocked the bill from advancing, with all present Democrats and a few Republicans opposing it. Fairshake, funded mainly by Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, says it backs crypto-friendly candidates from both parties and often runs issue-focused ads rather than overtly crypto-themed ones.
