An Arctic Circle Bitcoin Mine Will Heat a Building in a Fishing Village
A bitcoin mining facility by Sazmining will open in a small fishing village in Norway's Arctic Circle on December 1, potentially becoming the world's northernmost operation. The facility will replace an oil boiler with a bitcoin data center, utilizing heat from mining rigs to warm the building and dry fish, addressing local heating needs in extreme cold. The operation will have a capacity of 2.6 megawatts and will employ liquid cooling for quiet operation. Sazmining's model allows retail investors to operate rigs in a carbon-neutral manner. The project is economically viable due to Norway's cheap hydropower, enabling bitcoin production at competitive costs. Despite concerns over greenhouse gas emissions, Halliburton believes the facility will demonstrate the benefits of bitcoin mining and mitigate regulatory issues by providing essential heating during winter.
