Another Solo Bitcoin Miner Hits the Jackpot, Scoring $225K BTC Reward

Summary

A solo Bitcoin miner with only 70 terahashes of computational power—about 0.00000667% of the total Bitcoin network hash rate—successfully solved a Bitcoin block, earning a reward worth over $225,000. The odds of achieving this were roughly 1 in 100,000 per day, or once every 300 years at that mining power. This win comes shortly after another solo miner, also using CKPool’s service, found a block and earned about $210,000 with over three times the computational power. Such solo wins are rare due to the dominance of large mining pools, but they demonstrate that individual miners can sometimes succeed. CKPool allows miners to participate without operating a full Bitcoin node, charging a 2% fee on block rewards. The found block is the 313th solo block achieved via CKPool. The overall Bitcoin network hash rate has recently increased by nearly 15%. Bitcoin’s price recently rose to $72,094, still about 43% below its October all-time high of $126,080.
