Astria, Project to Decentralize Crucial Blockchain 'Sequencers,' Goes Live With Main Network
Astria has launched the main network for its alpha release, positioning itself as the first decentralized shared sequencing layer. This project aims to decentralize blockchain sequencers, which compile transactions for layer-2 networks, addressing issues of centralization that can lead to bottlenecks and transaction censorship. Unlike most existing layer-2 networks that rely on centralized sequencers, Astria offers a modular plug-in solution for various networks. The project raised $5.5 million in April 2023 and evolved from a focus on creating a settlement layer for rollup networks on Celestia's data-availability network. Astria supports both Ethereum-compatible EVM and Solana's SVM environments, providing fast confirmations with approximately 2-second block times and single slot finality. The mainnet utilizes Celestia’s token (TIA) for data posting.
