Avalanche Unveils $40M Grant Program Ahead of 'Avalanche9000' Upgrade
The Avalanche Foundation is launching a $40 million grant program named Retro9000 to incentivize developers to create new protocols on the Avalanche network. This initiative aims to support the upcoming Avalanche9000 upgrade by extending the testnet phase and implementing an incentivized testnet model. Developers and users must register on the Retro9000 platform, where user activity will earn voting credits that influence grant allocations. To qualify for retroactive grants, builders must deploy their projects on the mainnet. Avalanche9000 is anticipated to be the largest upgrade since the network's mainnet launch in 2020, making it easier and cheaper to launch layer 1s. The testnet is set to launch in October, with no specific date for Avalanche9000 yet. The AVAX token has decreased by 29% this year, contrasting with Ethereum's 13% increase.
