Binance Hacker Hunts for Exit Ramps as DeFi Exchanges Pause Markets
Summary
Wallets linked to Binance were reportedly drained of at least $5.5 billion, in what could become crypto’s largest hack. The attacker has used Uniswap and Aave to exchange or borrow ETH, which lacks a central issuer able to freeze it, while stablecoin issuers Tether, Circle and Ripple froze portions of suspected funds. On-chain records showed roughly 253,000 ETH, worth about $570 million, held across two wallets. Aave froze Ethereum mainnet markets, and Solana-based Kamino paused some markets as a precaution. Binance said it was investigating and had not confirmed whether user funds were affected.
