Bitcoin Layer 2 Mezo Emerges From Stealth With $21M Raise Led by Pantera

Summary

Blockchain venture studio Thesis has launched Mezo, a Bitcoin layer-2 network, following a $21 million fundraising round led by Pantera Capital. Mezo is a permissionless Bitcoin economic layer that uses a neutral smart contract infrastructure to offer various applications for users. It aims to enhance the Bitcoin blockchain’s infrastructure and facilitate cheap and fast transactions. Mezo will be supported by Thesis’ bitcoin-backed Ethereum token tBTC, which allows users to bring bitcoin into Ethereum’s decentralized-finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Thesis aims to bring 25% of the world’s economy on-chain with Mezo, equivalent to the size of the U.S. economy. Mezo enables users to hold their bitcoin while earning a yield for securing the network.
