'Bitcoin Mayor' Eric Adams Establishes NYC Digital Assets and Blockchain Office
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has established the Office of Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology, positioning New York as a leader in digital asset adoption. The new office, created by executive order and operating under the mayor’s office, aims to grow the city’s economy, attract talent, and support crypto industry investment. Moises Rendon, a former digital assets policy advisor, will direct the office and assemble a commission of sector leaders to shape its work. This office follows Adams’ previous initiatives to draw crypto investment and explore blockchain uses in city records. Adams, known for taking his early mayoral pay in Bitcoin and Ethereum, has promoted a pro-crypto agenda, including calling for an end to the state’s restrictive BitLicense. Mayor Adams will leave office on January 1, after withdrawing from the reelection race. Current predictions give Zohran Mamdani the highest likelihood of becoming the next mayor.
