Bitfinex Derivatives Users Can Now Place Bets on Bitcoin and Ether Implied Volatility

Summary

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has launched perpetual futures tied to bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) volatility indices. The futures are based on Volmex's bitcoin implied volatility index (BVIV) and ether implied volatility index (EVIV), which indicate expected price turbulence over 30 days. From April 3, Bitfinex users can trade these futures under the ticker symbols BVIVF0:USTFO and EVIVFO:USDTFO. The contracts are denominated, margined, and settled in tether (USDT), a dollar-pegged stablecoin. The futures will allow traders to bet on the speed of anticipated price movements in bitcoin and ether, and could help them navigate binary events that could inject volatility into the market.
