Bitget hacker moves $83 million in stolen XRP beyond reach of freeze controls
Summary
The attacker behind Bitget’s $387.5 million breach moved about $83 million in XRP from three wallets, while roughly $75 million remained in accounts. XRP’s network rules give Ripple no built-in way to freeze the native token, so recovery depends partly on exchanges restricting funds if they receive them. Circle and Tether froze about $320,000 in related stablecoins. Transfers show stolen XRP being spread across more wallets, but do not establish how much was sold. Bitget says its protection fund covers the loss and customer balances are unaffected; withdrawals are scheduled to resume in stages.
