Bitget, Liquid exploits push Q3 crypto hacks toward $1.2B

Summary

Crypto hacks caused $1.18 billion in losses across 107 incidents in Q3 2026, the worst quarter since Q1 2025. Hacken attributed about 77% of losses to supplier compromises, developer tools and other components outside security reviews. Four incidents accounted for roughly 80% of losses: Bitget ($387 million), Liquid Network ($320 million), Tectonic ($120 million) and a Coldcard firmware vulnerability ($115 million). Smart-contract attacks were the most frequent, with 71 incidents and $228 million in losses. About $387 million was returned or reversed, and operators covered another $410 million; roughly $384 million remained unrecovered and uncovered. Hacken urged broader security reviews of suppliers and privileged infrastructure.
