Bitget resumes Bitcoin withdrawals as hacker swaps ETH via THORChain
Bitget has resumed Bitcoin withdrawals after a security breach that affected about $387.5 million in assets, while the attacker continues moving stolen crypto through THORChain. The Sept. 24 incident compromised parts of Bitget’s hot and warm wallets, but cold wallets were not affected. BTC withdrawals on Bitcoin and BNB Smart Chain restarted first, and the exchange plans to restore ETH on Tuesday, USDT on Wednesday, and other assets plus peer-to-peer services on Friday. Bitget said the rollout applies to all users equally. The stolen amount was revised upward after additional transfers on Zcash and Tron were included. Meanwhile, blockchain data showed the attacker swapping ETH for BTC through THORChain. Bitget urged THORChain to block related addresses, but THORChain said its halt mechanism is broad and cannot selectively freeze specific funds or swaps.
