Bithumb wins 2 suits over mistaken Bitcoin credits: Report
Bithumb won first-instance rulings in two lawsuits against users who sold Bitcoin that had been mistakenly credited to their accounts. The Seoul Central District Court ruled in Bithumb’s favor in cases involving 194 million won and 5 million won; two other recovery suits remain pending. The disputes stem from Bithumb’s February error during a promotional payout, when an employee accidentally credited 620,000 BTC instead of 620,000 won. Bithumb said it later recovered most of the mistaken transfers, but 1,788 BTC had already been sold before accounts were frozen. The exchange filed four unjust enrichment claims in March, seeking the cash proceeds from those sales. South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service has also investigated the incident and begun sanctions proceedings, though no final penalty has been announced.
