BlackRock: Why Bitcoin Matters More Than Ever In Today’s Financial Landscape
BlackRock has launched Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and released a paper highlighting Bitcoin's significance in the financial landscape. The paper, authored by key executives, asserts that Bitcoin, created in 2009, is the first widely adopted internet-native monetary instrument. It emphasizes Bitcoin's technological innovations, including its digital, global, scarce, decentralized, and permissionless nature, which address issues with traditional money. BlackRock identifies three main reasons for Bitcoin's importance: its unmatched status among cryptocurrencies, its role as a decentralized monetary alternative free from counterparty risk, and its insulation from macroeconomic risks like banking crises and geopolitical turmoil. The firm predicts that Bitcoin's adoption will rise amid global monetary instability and views it as a "flight to safety" during crises. However, it acknowledges inherent risks and states that Bitcoin is still evolving as a global payment method and reliable store of value. Currently, Bitcoin is trading at $60,200, reflecting a slight increase.
