BOJ will more than double stock-fund sales from January
Summary
The Bank of Japan will more than double annual ETF sales from January 2027, raising the pace from about ¥330 billion to ¥860 billion at book value. The disposals involve Japanese equities, not Bitcoin, and aim to equal roughly 0.1% of trading. The BOJ can adjust or pause sales if markets become strained and says earlier disposals proceeded smoothly. The change does not alter the overnight rate target of about 1.25%. Bitcoin exposure is indirect: equity volatility could prompt leveraged investors to cut positions across assets, as during the 2024 yen carry-trade turmoil. Market absorption of the faster sales will be tested from January.
