Bored Ape Maker Yuga Labs Rescues Dozens of Ethereum NFTs From Exploit

Summary

Yuga Labs carried out a whitehat rescue of roughly $570,000 in NFTs from a vulnerability in the defunct Floor Protocol. The operation saved 29 Bored Apes and two CryptoPunks, after Yuga discovered the exploit could be extended to other high-value NFTs held in Floor Protocol “pools.” Floor Protocol had let users deposit NFTs to receive tradable μTokens, but the bug allowed attackers to turn a small amount of wrapped ETH into an effectively unlimited μToken balance and drain NFT pools. Yuga says it moved the exposed assets first to prevent malicious actors from extracting them, and is now holding the NFTs while working with Floor Protocol developers on a fix and return process. The incident comes amid a much cooler NFT market, though Bored Apes and CryptoPunks still retain significant floor values.
