Bored Ape Yacht Club Maker Sells Moonbirds IP to Gaming Startup
Yuga Labs is refocusing on the Bored Ape Yacht Club, the Otherside metaverse game, and related projects. The company sold the Moonbirds NFT project IP to Orange Cap Games, a startup specializing in digital and physical trading card games. Orange Cap Games plans to mint future on-chain assets for Moonbirds on either a layer-1 chain or the Yuga-linked ApeChain. Moonbirds characters will still be included in Yuga's Otherside game. Yuga Labs has previously sold the CryptoPunks and Meebits IPs acquired from Larva Labs in 2022. The original Moonbirds collection launched in April 2022, generating $280 million in sales during its initial weekend. Yuga Labs acquired the Moonbirds IP in February 2024, with original creator Proof facing challenges as the NFT market declined.
