Circle's Allaire: Stablecoins Could Expand by Trillions in 10 Years, Will Be Integral Part of Global Financial System
The stablecoin market is projected to reach $5-$10 trillion in ten years, capturing 5%-10% of the global money supply, according to Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire. Current stablecoin market capitalization is approximately $170 billion. Stablecoins facilitate transactions by bridging fiat currencies and blockchain technology, gaining traction in developing countries with unstable currencies. Circle's USDC has grown to $35 billion, while Tether's USDT has a market cap of about $120 billion. Allaire anticipates increased USDC adoption in emerging markets, particularly through fintech companies. Stripe recently reintroduced USDC transactions, indicating growing acceptance. Circle plans to go public, with stablecoin legislation gaining bipartisan support in the U.S. and global regulatory frameworks developing rapidly. By 2025, many G20 countries are expected to have stablecoin regulations in place.
