Crossmint enables Visa card payments for AI agents and autonomous commerce
Crossmint launched an API that lets AI agents make purchases with eligible Visa debit and credit cards through its lobster.cash tool. The system combines Visa Intelligent Commerce with Basis Theory infrastructure so agents can pay without seeing raw card numbers and must stay within preset spending limits. Developers can plug it into platforms like Claude Code, OpenClaw, Hermes, and Zo Computer through Crossmint’s API and docs. Crossmint says it tokenizes users’ existing Visa cards rather than issuing new virtual cards, which lets customers keep card rewards while authorizing agent spending. The company also supports stablecoin payments and is working to add Mastercard and American Express support. The launch reflects a wider push to build “agentic payments,” where AI agents can hold funds, access services, and complete transactions with limited or no human involvement.
