New crypto tokens themed after internet services company CrowdStrike and Microsoft's "Blue Screen of Death" (BSoD) error were issued on Ethereum and Solana blockchains during a global internet outage. The outage, reportedly linked to a problematic CrowdStrike software update, affected several services and caused millions of Windows users to experience the BSoD error. Despite this, no crypto-related companies reported any service disruptions. Tokens referring to CrowdStrike, STRIKE, Microsoft, bluescreenofdeath, and BSoD were actively traded, with some reaching market capitalizations of up to $1 million. This practice of creating tokens based on trending news is a common behavior among crypto market participants, often resulting in profits for the creators and early buyers despite the tokens typically losing all value eventually.
