Crypto custodian BitGo secures MiCA license in Germany
BitGo has received regulatory approval from Germany's BaFin to operate across the European Union under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license. This license enables BitGo Europe to provide digital asset services to both cryptocurrency firms and traditional financial institutions, including banks and asset managers. BitGo established its EU headquarters in Frankfurt in 2023 and has secured multiple registrations in several EU countries, including Italy, Spain, Poland, and Greece. The MiCA license allows BitGo to operate under a unified regulatory framework across the EU. The firm plans to expand its product offerings to include a range of institutional-grade digital asset solutions, although specific services under the new license have not been detailed. As of May 12, BaFin's records had not yet updated to reflect BitGo's MiCA license.
