Crypto Exchange Kraken Secures MiCA License In Ireland
Kraken has secured a license under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework from the Central Bank of Ireland, enabling it to expand its services across the European Union's member states. This MiCA license allows Kraken to offer regulated services in the 30 European Economic Area countries. The approval follows Kraken's earlier acquisition of a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license and an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in 2023. Other exchanges like Coinbase, OKX, Crypto.com, and Bybit have also announced MiCA licenses, while Tether has opted not to pursue MiCA registration for its USDt stablecoin. Kraken recently moved its global headquarters to Wyoming to align with pro-crypto regulations. The exchange remains subject to evolving US laws regarding digital asset regulation, following the dismissal of a civil lawsuit by the SEC alleging unregistered operations.
