Crypto lobby wants software dev protections added to crypto bill
The largest US crypto lobbying groups have requested lawmakers to include protections for software developers and infrastructure providers in a crypto regulation bill. A joint statement from several organizations urged the addition of the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA) to the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act of 2025. The BRCA would exempt non-custodial crypto platform developers from being classified as money transmitters. The CLARITY Act aims to redefine the roles of the SEC and CFTC regarding digital assets. Concerns about unconstitutional surveillance requirements in crypto regulation were also highlighted. Additionally, the US crypto lobby has called for swift passage of a stablecoin-regulating bill without added clauses. Regulatory attitudes towards crypto have shifted since the Trump administration, with SEC chair Paul Atkins indicating a move away from enforcement-based regulation. The Senate is set to decide on Brian Quintenz's appointment as CFTC head, who has disclosed significant crypto assets.
