Demand for high yield makes Ethena’s USDe third largest stablecoin
Ethena’s synthetic USDe dollar has become the fastest-growing USD-pegged stablecoin, with a market capitalization increase of 73% to $4.77 billion, making it the third-largest stablecoin, surpassing DAI. USDe remains behind Tether’s USDT at $135 billion and Circle’s USDC at $40 billion. Ethena Labs CEO Guy Young noted that USDe is impacting DeFi and lending markets but requires larger capital pools for further growth. The rapid growth follows a rise to $3 billion just four months post-launch in February. USDe's appeal lies in its yield-generating potential, offering an annual percentage yield (APY) of 29% through Ethereum staking. Critics have compared USDe’s model to the failed Terra-Luna project, yet demand remains strong, with supply and borrow APR rates on Aave significantly exceeding those of USDT and USDC.
