Eightco Boosts OpenAI Investment After BitMine's Tom Lee Joins Board

Summary

Eightco Holdings, a publicly traded AI and blockchain company, has increased its investment in OpenAI by $40 million, raising its total stake to $90 million, or 30% of its treasury. This move aims to provide retail investors access to high-growth private companies like OpenAI, known for ChatGPT. The new investment follows Eightco's recent $125 million capital raise from firms including BitMine Immersion Technologies, Payward (Kraken’s parent), and Ark Invest. BitMine Chairman Tom Lee has also joined Eightco's board. Eightco additionally manages 11,068 ETH worth $23.6 million and $76 million in cash and stablecoins, with a major crypto position in Worldcoin (WLD)—holding nearly 10% of WLD's circulating supply, valued at $89.2 million. Last year, Eightco raised $250 million to build a digital asset treasury focused on Worldcoin. Despite significant asset growth, Eightco shares are down about 93% over the past six months, recently trading around $0.90.
