Ethereum, Base wallet standards talks fail, Ethlabs researcher says
Ethereum and Base have abandoned efforts to converge on a single account abstraction standard, leaving wallet developers to support different transaction formats if they want a consistent cross-chain experience. Ethereum is moving ahead with Frame Transactions under EIP-8141 as part of its Hegotá upgrade, aiming for native account abstraction and a path to post-quantum authentication. Base is pursuing native account abstraction through Keystore under EIP-8130, which is already on devnet. The split reflects different network priorities: Ethereum L1 emphasizes censorship resistance, security, privacy, and open-source design, while Base and other scalability-focused L2s favor standards better suited to higher throughput and usability. The separation may increase implementation complexity, but it also lets each network innovate according to its own goals.
