Ethereum Foundation's Treasury Shrunk 39% Over 2 1/2 Years to $970M

Summary

The Ethereum Foundation reported a treasury of $970.2 million as of October 31, down 39% from $1.6 billion in March 2022. The majority, $788.7 million (81.3%), is held in cryptocurrency, primarily ether (ETH). The foundation aims to fund public goods for the Ethereum ecosystem while maintaining a conservative treasury management policy. ETH's price has decreased from around $3,300 to approximately $2,600 since March 2022. The foundation spent $105.4 million in 2022 and $134.9 million in 2023, with an estimated ten years of financial runway remaining. A new conflict of interest policy has been implemented, requiring disclosure of outside work and investments, particularly those exceeding $25,000 annually. This policy follows concerns raised by the departure of two researchers who had significant token payouts from their advisory roles at EigenLayer.
