Ethereum Glamsterdam Upgrade Moves Toward 200M Gas Limit Roadmap
Ethereum’s next major upgrade focus is Glamsterdam, which centers on scaling the base layer while preserving decentralization. Two key proposals are enshrined proposer-builder separation (EIP-7732), which would move block construction closer to protocol design and reduce reliance on external relay infrastructure, and block-level access lists (EIP-7928), which would make state access more predictable and help parallel execution. The biggest headline is a possible roadmap toward a 200 million gas limit, a major increase in L1 capacity. This is still a target under development, not a guaranteed mainnet outcome. Glamsterdam shows Ethereum is pursuing higher throughput through structural protocol changes, not just by shifting activity to rollups.
