Ethereum is preparing a 200 million gas push as its Layer 1 scaling strategy accelerates

Summary

Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled for the Sepolia testnet on Oct. 6. It includes an optional gas-limit schedule targeting a 200 million gas preference, but compatible Prysm and Teku clients default to 60 million unless validators change their settings. The limit will rise gradually as validators propose blocks, and blocks remain valid above or below the scheduled target. Glamsterdam also adds proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists to support higher throughput. Sepolia will test validator coordination and the upgrade’s effects; dates for Hoodi and mainnet activation have not been set.
