Ethereum Rollup Scroll Now Lets Users Exit Independently, Becoming 'First' to Hit Decentralization Milestone
Scroll has achieved a significant milestone as the first Ethereum Layer 2 solution utilizing zero-knowledge proofs to allow users to post transactions without a central operator. The project has reached "Stage 1" in its development, enhancing security, scalability, and decentralization. Previously reliant on a centralized sequencer, users can now transact without fear of censorship or downtime. The recent Euclid upgrade ensures the system remains operational even if the primary operator fails or attempts to block actions. Scroll has introduced OpenVM, a tool that divides large actions into smaller, verifiable pieces to prevent system disruptions. All system changes require user voting and a three-day waiting period for implementation. A 12-person Security Council, with strict rules for decision-making, oversees safety measures. Despite facing delays in launch compared to competitors, Scroll is optimistic about progressing to Stage 2, which would further limit emergency powers of any group, including the Security Council.
