Ethereum, Solana led crypto hack losses in H1 2026: Blockaid

Summary

Crypto losses exceeded $1 billion in the first half of 2026, the worst six-month period on record for hacks, with 212 security incidents tracked. Ethereum saw the largest losses at about $332 million, followed closely by Solana at about $326 million. The biggest single exploit was KelpDAO at $292 million. Blockaid said high-threshold exploits were 3.4 times more frequent than across all of 2025. Ethereum losses were mainly driven by code exploits in applications built on the network, especially bridges, smart contracts, privileged-account compromises, and market manipulation. The network remains a major target because it hosts high-value protocols such as restaking platforms, stablecoins, and decentralized exchanges. Solana’s losses surged largely because attackers targeted keys and signing infrastructure rather than smart contracts. More than 98% of Solana losses came from compromised keys, with incidents tied to Drift Protocol and Step Finance.
