Former Ethereum Foundation Researchers Launch Ethlabs With BitMine And SharpLink Backing
Ethlabs has launched as an independent nonprofit focused on Ethereum protocol research and development, backed by BitMine, SharpLink, and ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin. The launch adds a new institutional-facing research hub to Ethereum’s ecosystem, with former Ethereum Foundation contributors involved. The timing matters because Ethereum is facing major open questions around scaling, staking economics, MEV, privacy, validator incentives, institutional adoption, and layer-2s. More dedicated research capacity could shape which proposals get tested and debated, even though it does not control Ethereum’s decentralized roadmap. The main signal is institutional support moving beyond ETH accumulation into infrastructure and protocol research. For ETH holders, this suggests Ethereum’s next phase may be increasingly shaped by multiple independent centers of gravity, with the Ethereum Foundation still central but no longer alone. The launch is best viewed as a meaningful ecosystem and market signal rather than an immediate trading trigger.
