Former FTX CTO Gary Wang Asks Court for No Jail Time
Gary Wang, former CTO of FTX, has requested no prison time for his role in the exchange's 2022 collapse. He pleaded guilty to four criminal counts in December 2022, facing a maximum of 50 years in prison. Wang's sentencing on November 20 will likely be influenced by previous sentences of FTX employees. Sam Bankman-Fried received 25 years, while others received varying sentences based on cooperation with prosecutors. Wang's lawyers argue his involvement was less significant than others, claiming he learned of Alameda's theft late and did not engage in deceptive practices or financial gain. They emphasized that Wang's role was primarily coding and that he did not seek compensation beyond his salary. Following FTX's collapse, Wang has lived with his mother and secured a job as a software engineer. He married in January 2023 and is expecting a child soon.
