Franklin Templeton launches dedicated crypto division after closing 250 Digital acquisition

Summary

Franklin Templeton has completed its acquisition of crypto asset manager 250 Digital and formed a new division, Franklin Crypto, to expand its cryptocurrency investing business. The unit combines 250 Digital’s investment team and strategies with Franklin Templeton’s distribution network and will be led by Christopher Perkins, Seth Ginns, and digital assets executive Tony Pecore. It will target institutional investors with actively managed crypto strategies. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal fits Franklin Templeton’s broader push into digital assets and tokenization. Recent moves include a partnership with Binance for using tokenized money market fund shares as trading collateral, a collaboration with Ondo Finance to offer tokenized ETFs onchain, and proposals for ETFs that link stock dividends to Bitcoin-related investments. Franklin Templeton manages about $1.78 trillion and says its tokenized assets have more than tripled over the past year.
