From Wall Street To Red Square: Moscow Exchange Lists BlackRock Bitcoin Futures
The Moscow Exchange has launched Bitcoin futures contracts, marking a significant step in Russia's gradual acceptance of cryptocurrencies. These contracts are linked to the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF, which has over $72 billion in assets. Trades are priced in US dollars, with settlements in Russian rubles, allowing local traders to engage with Bitcoin's price fluctuations without using foreign platforms. Only qualified investors, such as major banks and funds, can participate, as ordinary investors are excluded. The Bank of Russia approved these products in May 2025 but remains cautious, advising firms against direct crypto trading. This strategy aims to manage risk while allowing participation in the global crypto market. Sberbank is developing its own crypto-related product, offering structured bonds tied to Bitcoin's price, also trading in rubles without requiring a crypto wallet.
