Hodl my beer: Businesses are the biggest Bitcoin buyers this year
Corporations are the largest net buyers of Bitcoin in 2025, acquiring 157,000 BTC valued at approximately $16 billion. Michael Saylor's Strategy accounts for 77% of this growth. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) follow with a net increase of 49,000 BTC, while governments added around 19,000 BTC. Retail investors have decreased their holdings by 247,000 BTC. Business ownership of Bitcoin has grown by 154% since 2024, with finance and investment firms leading at 35.7%, followed by tech firms at 16.8%. Recent significant purchases include Strategy acquiring 13,390 BTC and Metaplanet adding 1,241 BTC. Twelve public companies bought Bitcoin for the first time in Q1 2025, increasing corporate holdings by 16%. Analysts note that corporate demand may create a deflationary pressure on Bitcoin supply, as miners produce only 450 coins daily.
