Humanity Protocol Loses $36M After Private Keys 'Compromised,' Token Crashes 73%
Humanity Protocol’s H token crashed over 80% after attackers compromised private keys linked to a Foundation member, seized bridge admin controls on Ethereum and BNB Chain, and stole more than $36 million. The project said the breach followed an employee laptop compromise and involved control of multiple Gnosis Safe keys, allowing the attacker to take ProxyAdmin ownership, drain about 141.2 million H, and mint another 200,000,005 H through malicious contract upgrades. H fell from about $0.73 to a low near $0.08 before rebounding slightly. Founder Terence Kwok warned users not to interact with the bridge or liquidity pools while deposits and withdrawals were halted. Security researchers described the incident as an operational security failure rather than a smart-contract bug, noting thin liquidity limited the attacker’s ability to fully cash out. The hack adds to a severe year for DeFi security, with losses already above $885 million in 2026.
