Instant Bitcoin checkout arrives, but risk now shifts to settlement control

Summary

GoMining launched the Gen1 SDK and API for GoBTC Pay on June 19, giving merchants and wallet providers a live path to Bitcoin checkout. The system keeps BTC as the payment asset at checkout, then routes acceptance and settlement through GoMining’s own mining pool, aiming to make payments feel instant while final on-chain settlement averages around 12 hours. Users pay no direct transaction fee; merchants pay 0.2%. For third-party transactions, half the fee goes to miners in the GoBTC pool and half to the wallet provider, creating incentives for both parties to adopt the rail. The rollout starts with up to 10 merchants and partners, with thousands on the waiting list. That makes this an early, controlled deployment. The main tradeoff is reliance on a miner-operated settlement path, which concentrates responsibility around pool governance, transaction prioritization, and recovery design.
