Internet Computer-Based 'Bitfinity EVM' Launches as Bitcoin L2, Supports Runes

Bitcoin layer 2 Bitfinity has launched its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to integrate smart contracts with Bitcoin protocols and enable Bitcoin DeFi apps. Bitfinity, built on the Internet Computer (ICP) protocol, allows asset bridging to other blockchains and enables applications using Ethereum's smart contract programming language, Solidity, to access Bitcoin-based tokens. The Bitfinity EVM allows developers to deploy Bitcoin-based Solidity smart contracts and transfer BTC, Ordinals, and Runes. Bitfinity is also leveraging the new Bitcoin protocol Runes, which allows fungible tokens to be minted on the Bitcoin blockchain.
