Kraken Picks Optimism for New Layer-2 Network, Joining Coinbase's Base on 'Superchain'
Kraken is launching its own layer-2 network, Ink, on the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing technology from Optimism. The network is set to go live in early 2025. This move follows the success of Optimism's technology, which has attracted major firms like Coinbase, Sony, and Uniswap to develop their own layer-2 networks. Kraken's initiative may solidify OP Stack's position as a leading technology provider for Ethereum layer-2 solutions. Currently, Arbitrum leads with a total collateral value locked (TVL) of $13.6 billion, while Optimism's flagship network has a TVL of $6.1 billion. However, the family of projects using Optimism's technology collectively boasts a TVL of $18.1 billion. Andrew Koller, founder of Ink, emphasized the importance of a thriving developer ecosystem for the success of layer-2 networks.
