Major Validators Join Testnet to Tackle Ethereum’s Overlooked Bottleneck

Summary

Major Ethereum validators are testing OptimumP2P, a high-performance memory layer aimed at improving the network's limitations. Participants include Kiln, P2P.org, Everstake, Blockdaemon, Infstones, Luganodes, and Ebunker. OptimumP2P employs MIT-developed technology to enhance the networking stack, utilizing traditional gossip protocols for message propagation among nodes. Current methods, like Gossipsub, lead to inefficiencies and latency due to redundant message sending. OptimumP2P addresses these issues by using Random Linear Network Coding, allowing nodes to share encoded packets of data, reducing latency by 10 times under high traffic and supporting larger message sizes. Initial tests show zero message loss and stable performance. Validators involved represent at least 14% of Ethereum's total staking share. Optimum plans to deploy on Ethereum's Hoodi testnet this summer, with potential future applications on other Layer 1 blockchains.
