Mastercard Enables AI Agent Payments With Help From Crypto Giants Like Coinbase, Ripple
Mastercard launched Agent Pay for Machines, a platform that lets AI agents and connected machines make autonomous payments using cards, bank accounts, and stablecoins. It expands the company’s Agent Pay program to support payments between AI agents, software platforms, and devices, including high-volume, low-value, low-latency transactions. Mastercard says this could enable new AI business models where services are bought and sold automatically. More than 30 companies are participating, including Coinbase, OKX, Polygon, RippleX, Aave Labs, Stripe, Cloudflare, and the Solana Foundation. The move adds to Mastercard’s broader push into AI-driven commerce and follows several crypto initiatives this year, including a crypto partner program, a planned BVNK acquisition, support for Solana-based stablecoin settlement, and expanded regulated stablecoin settlement with USDC and RLUSD.
