Metaplanet Acquires Japanese Securities Firm for $13M to Launch Bitcoin Yield Products
Metaplanet is buying Japanese securities firm Siiibo for about $13 million to launch Bitcoin-linked yield products for Japanese investors. The deal gives Metaplanet a Type 1 financial license and direct access to retail distribution, moving it beyond simply accumulating Bitcoin into building financial products around it. Siiibo pioneered Japan’s online corporate bond market and has supported more than 100 bond offerings for over 40 companies. After the July closing, it will be renamed Metaplanet Securities. CEO Simon Gerovich said the purchase is the first concrete step in Project Nova, a long-term plan to build a Bitcoin-centric financial ecosystem in Japan. Metaplanet, now the third-largest Bitcoin treasury company with 40,177 BTC, sees rising demand for yield as Japan shifts from deflation to inflation and households search for returns on large cash holdings.
