Metaplanet Buys 1,111 Bitcoin, Approaches Tesla's Holdings
Metaplanet has acquired an additional 1,111 Bitcoin, increasing its total holdings to 11,111 BTC. The company spent 17.26 billion Japanese yen (approximately $117 million), averaging just under $105,500 per coin. Bitcoin was trading around $102,000 at the time of purchase, which is about 3.3% below the purchase price. Metaplanet's average cost basis is $95,560 per coin. This acquisition follows a previous purchase of 1,112 Bitcoin, which had raised its holdings to 10,000 BTC. Metaplanet is now the eighth-largest corporate Bitcoin holder, closely trailing Tesla's 11,509 BTC. Other companies are also increasing their Bitcoin treasuries, with at least 237 public companies holding over 832,000 BTC combined, representing approximately 3.96% of Bitcoin's total supply.
