Metaplanet explores Bitcoin-backed digital credit with JPYC in Japan
Metaplanet Securities, JPYC, and Progmatare have launched a joint study in Japan on Bitcoin-backed digital credit products. The project will explore using BTC as collateral or credit enhancement for digital corporate bonds and other credit instruments, with settlement in the yen-pegged JPYC stablecoin and holder rights managed through security tokens. No product has been issued yet. The study is part of Metaplanet’s broader Project Nova, which aims to turn Bitcoin into a productive balance sheet asset and build a Bitcoin financial services ecosystem in Japan. Metaplanet says the goal is a more efficient and transparent credit market, with potential features like blockchain-based issuance, 24/7 access, and daily interest accrual. The move signals interest in extending Bitcoin’s use beyond treasury holdings into capital markets and yield products.
