Mobile app Toss and blockchain Optimism to conduct Korean won stablecoin POC : report
Viva Republica, operator of Toss, has reportedly signed an MOU with Optimism and Sunnyside Labs to run a three-month proof of concept for a Korean won-based stablecoin payment infrastructure. The pilot will use Optimism’s OP Stack and Sunnyside’s Privacy Boost to test whether stablecoin payments can support institutional use cases, including settlement control by financial institutions, KYC/AML compliance, and privacy on a public blockchain. Toss aims to use the results to build compliant stablecoin-based payment infrastructure in South Korea. Optimism will supply the blockchain stack, while Sunnyside will provide privacy tools. The move follows similar stablecoin experiments by major Korean and global payment firms, including Shinhan Card, Visa, Mastercard, and BC Card.
