Musk Says Real-World Data From X and Tesla to Drive AGI Efforts
Elon Musk stated that xAI assigns a 10% chance of achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) with its planned Grok 5 model, emphasizing that access to live data—provided by X (formerly Twitter)—is a key advantage over competitors relying on static datasets. Grok 5, expected in early 2026, will feature six trillion parameters and handle text, image, video, and audio, with a focus on high “intelligence density” and strong video comprehension, which Musk considers essential for AGI. He argued that success in AI hinges on attracting talent, hardware deployment, and exclusive data, with X serving as xAI’s primary data source. Musk also highlighted Tesla’s self-driving system as four times safer than human drivers and predicted mass production of the Optimus humanoid robot at $20,000-$30,000 per unit once scale is achieved. He claimed Tesla’s new AI 5 chip will outperform Nvidia’s hardware at a lower cost. Musk expressed a “pro-human” stance but warned that advanced AI could create a “crisis of meaning” as machines surpass human capabilities in all areas.
