New DeFi entrant widens field of crypto political campaign funds as elections loom
Defend Developers PAC, a new crypto-focused hybrid PAC, has entered U.S. politics with a strategy different from larger crypto groups: it plans to support incumbent lawmakers already friendly to legal protections for crypto developers and DeFi projects. Founded by Gavin Zavatone of the DeFi Education Fund, it says it aims to raise and spend more than six figures across dozens of midterm races. As a hybrid PAC, it can make direct candidate donations within FEC limits and fund independent advertising. Its board includes people from Uniswap Labs, DEF, and the Solana Policy Institute. It is far smaller than Fairshake, the industry’s dominant super PAC, which has spent millions and posted strong primary-election results backing crypto-aligned candidates.
